
KSSSA releases fixtures for 2025 National School Games

This year’s event, hosted by the Coast Region, will feature what is expected to be a thrilling lineup of sports, including hockey, basketball (5x5), rugby 15s, swimming, handball, athletics, and cross country
The Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) has officially released the schedule and fixtures for the 2025 Term One National Championships, to be played in Mombasa from Tuesday, 8 April to Saturday, 12 April.
This year’s event, hosted by the Coast Region, will feature what is expected to be a thrilling lineup of sports, including hockey, basketball (5x5), rugby 15s, swimming, handball, athletics, and cross country.
The schedule outlines an action-packed week, with preliminary matches in rugby, hockey, basketball, and handball beginning on 8 April across multiple venues including; Shimo La Tewa, Shanzu Teachers College, and Aga Khan Academy. Athletics and swimming events will commence on Thursday, April 10, while cross country races are scheduled for the same day at Shanzu.
In basketball boys’ Pool A, Dr. Aggrey will open their campaign against Dagoretti High, while Pool B will feature North Eastern versus Laiser Hill on 8 April.
In the basketball girls’ category, Pool A will see Ikutha Girls face off against Kaya Tiwi, while Pool B will have Olympic take on North Eastern.
In the girls’ hockey pools, Pool A will open with St. Charles Lwanga against St. Joseph Kitale, while Mpesa Academy will play Ng’iya Girls.
In hockey boys’ Pool A, St. Anthony’s will begin their title defense against Hospital Hill, while Pool B features Musingu against Matiliku.
In boys’ rugby, Pool A’s Upper Hill will start against Mangu High, while Pool B’s Marafa Boys will face Bwake.
In handball preliminaries, the Pool A girls’ will see North Eastern battling Sacred Heart, and Kamusinga vs Dagoretti Mixed at 10.30 am, while Pool A of the boys’ category will open with North Eastern vs Highway at 10 am, and Pool B will have Kimilili facing Jaribuni at 2 pm.
The semifinals across all team sports are set for Friday, April 11, with finals and third-place play-offs concluding the championships on Saturday, April 12.
Athletics will get underway on Thursday with events like the 5000m walk, discus, and long jump being held.
In a statement written by the Regional Director of Education for Coast Region, Mr. Joseph Mithamo, he expressed pride in hosting this year’s national event.
“It’s a great honor for the Coast Region to host the 2025 Term One games. We intend to exceed expectations and showcase the warmth and hospitality of our community,” said Mithamo, encouraging competitors to aim for slots in the East African Games.
KSSSA President Kipchumba Maiyo echoed this sentiment in his message to participants.
“This competition is more than just a contest; it’s an opportunity to foster unity and uphold sportsmanship. I wish all teams the very best, give it your all and make memories that will last a lifetime.”
